The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a resolution honoring the victims and first responders of the Aug. 8 Maui wildfires, Hawaii’s congressional delegation announced.
The bicameral resolution was introduced by Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz in the Senate and Reps. Jill Tokuda and Ed Case in the House of Representatives. The Senate passed the resolution on Sept. 30.
“As Lahaina and Upcountry Maui continue the recovery and rebuilding process from the August wildfires, this resolution acknowledges and honors the many sacrifices of first responders, as well as those whose lives were lost,” Hirono said in a news release Wednesday, adding that she “will continue advocating for the federal resources necessary for Maui to recover, guided by the community voices and values of those who call Maui home.”
Tokuda, whose 2nd Congressional District includes Maui, also acknowledged the lives lost and the efforts of first responders.
“Their sacrifice and heroism will not be forgotten, and I will continue to fight for the resources and support Lahaina and our Maui ohana need to recover and rebuild,” Tokuda said in the news release.
