Congresswoman Jill Tokuda Sworn in as a Member of the 118th Congress

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congresswoman Jill Tokuda (HI-02) was sworn in today as a Member of the 118th Congress to become Hawaiʻi’s newest elected official in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Tokuda was elected with nearly 60% of the vote in the General Election to represent Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District, which encompasses the islands of Hawaiʻi, Maui, Kahoʻolawe, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kauaʻi, Niʻihau and the rural parts of Oʻahu, including Waimanālo, Kailua, Kāneʻohe, the North Shore, and Leeward coast.

The ceremony occurred at noon (EST) on the floor of the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Tokuda’s husband, Kyle, their two sons, Matt and Aden, her father, Paul Tokuda, and several family members, friends, and staff were in attendance.

“I am humbled and privileged that the people of Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District have elected me to be their voice in the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Tokuda. “From fighting to ensure greater access to healthcare and mental health services for our rural communities, advocating for increased funding for quality public education, and supporting laws to fight corruption and increase transparency in government, my team and I will work tirelessly every day to move Hawaiʻi forward in this upcoming Congress.”

In addition, Congresswoman Tokuda was also selected by her peers to serve in three leadership roles in caucuses during the 118th Congress. These positions include:

  • Vice Chair for Communications, Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC)
  • Freshman Representative, Congressional Asian-Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC)
  • Region 2 Whip (includes Hawaiʻi, Alaska, Northern California, Guam, American Samoa, and The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands)

“These caucus leadership positions provide me with the opportunity to elevate the voices and needs of Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District at the national level,” noted Tokuda. “I am excited about the work ahead as we aim to advance policies that improve the quality of life for countless families across the country.

Congresswoman Tokuda’s Washington D.C. office is at 1005 Longworth House Office Building. The location of her Hawaiʻi District Office will be announced at a later date.
