Rep. Jill Tokuda Announces Agriculture Subcommittee Assignments

(Washington, DC) – Today, Representative Jill Tokuda (HI-02) announced her appointment to serve on three Subcommittees on the House Committee on Agriculture:

  • The Subcommittee on Nutrition, Foreign Agriculture, and Horticulture oversees nutrition, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; horticulture including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and specialty crops; bees; organic agriculture; foreign agricultural assistance and trade, and more.

  • The Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry oversees livestock, seafood, poultry, and dairy; aquaculture; grazing; animal welfare, and more.

  • The Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology oversees pest and disease management, including pesticides; conservation; quarantine; education, research, and extension; biotechnology, and more.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve on three subcommittees on the House Committee on Agriculture that are important for Hawaiʻi’s farmers, producers, workers, and our economy. Over the last two weeks, I spent time listening and talking to farmers and ranchers across the islands about the challenges they face and hopes for the future. I look forward to being a strong voice to ensure that the Second Congressional District is well-represented as the Agriculture Committee negotiates the 2023 Farm Bill and implements policy that will impact our kids, agricultural producers, and families well into the future,” said Rep. Jill Tokuda.

Tokuda recently introduced her first two bills in Congress, which have been referred to the House Committee on Agriculture. The Coffee Plant Health and Macadamia Tree Health Initiatives Acts would expand high-priority research to help farmers and producers combat plant pests and noxious weeds, survey and collect data on plant health, improve best management practices, and increase access to resources that will ensure that the industries thrive well into the future.
