Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda led a bipartisan group of 25 Members of Congress in urging Congressional leadership to include supplemental disaster recovery funds in the next package of government funding bills or the next legislative vehicle.
“Communities across the country require additional support to sustain their recoveries,” wrote the Members. “Last October, President Biden submitted a supplemental appropriations request that included over $23 billion in disaster relief based on estimates of need in affected communities at that time. Since then, over a dozen additional major disasters have been declared across the country, illustrating how the needs have only grown.”
“We know that the road to recovery is going to be a long and challenging one for our Maui ‘ohana,” stated Representative Tokuda. “In speaking and working with my colleagues, Democratic and Republican, representing disaster-affected communities across the country, I know we share many of the same needs. We cannot do this without federal support, and the sooner Congress provides that funding, the faster we can plan and provide some much-needed certainty on the way ahead for our people and communities.”
Alongside Representative Tokuda, signatories of the letter include Representatives Doug LaMalfa, Katie Porter, David Valadao, Kevin Mullin, James Moylan, Steven Horsford, Elissa Slotkin, Jimmy Panetta, Ro Khanna, Dina Titus, Jared Moskowitz, Becca Balint, Al Green, Andrea Salinas, Darren Soto, Juan Vargas, Salud Carbajal, Sara Jacobs, Scott Peters, Val Hoyle, Linda Sánchez, Mike Levin, Ed Case, Terri Sewell, and Seth Magaziner.
