Niʻihau – Yesterday, Representative Jill Tokuda (HI-02) attended the Ni‘ihau High and Elementary School graduation to help celebrate this momentous occasion for two high school students.
Along with Rep. Tokuda, State Department of Education Kaua‘i Complex Area Superintendent Daniel Hamada and Kaua‘i County Board of Education Member William Arakaki joined the Ni‘ihau community in congratulating Brianne Kanahele and Jayna Niau Jr. They are the only 2024 graduates from the school, which does not have a commencement event every year and has 20 students.
“The invitation to celebrate alongside our Ni‘ihau graduates and their families was a humbling privilege and honor,” said Rep. Tokuda. “Witnessing the culmination of their hard work and how this close-knit community came together to celebrate and support their students was both inspiring and heartwarming. I am so proud of our Ni‘ihau students and I look forward to seeing the contributions they will make to Hawai‘i."
Ni‘ihau High and Elementary is known for its small population of students and is Hawai‘i’s smallest K-12 public school. Ni‘ihau—owned by the Robinson family—is the least inhabited Hawaiian island and has restricted access to the public.
