Normandy, France – Today, U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda (HI-02), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, paid tribute to members of the military and honored them at the 80th D-Day Anniversary ceremonies at the American Cemetery.
“Eighty years ago, tens of thousands of men, including many from Hawaii, put freedom before fear and marked a turning point in the war here on the beaches of Normandy. It has been a humbling honor to remember and pay respect to the brave soldiers where they battled and where so many paid the ultimate sacrifice. At a time when our present mirrors the global turbulence of our past, it is important to remember the heroes who laid the foundation for the freedom we have today and commit to defending them now and into the future,” said Rep. Tokuda.
Rep. Tokuda is part of the U.S. House of Representatives bipartisan Congressional Delegation currently in France. In addition to official ceremonies in Normandy, they will travel to Paris for meetings with the French National Assembly.
