(Washington, D.C.) Today, Rep. Jill Tokuda (HI-02) voted yes on the House bill to prevent a government shutdown and keep funding federal relief for Maui. Rep. Tokuda’s statement is as follows:
“I have been clear over and over again – our Maui ‘ohana cannot afford a government shutdown that risks slowing down the relief they need to recover and rebuild. This bill is less than perfect and a temporary solution, but it will keep government open and replenishes FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund with $16 billion dollars to ensure that Maui and other areas hit hard by natural disasters will continue to recover. My constituents sent me to Congress to keep government working for them, so I voted today to send this bill to the Senate and ensure that our government stays open for the people.”
