Honolulu, HI – Today, Rep. Jill Tokuda (HI-02) commended the announcement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of more than $35 million in federal funding for the State of Hawaii associated with the August wildfires on Maui.
The first award provides $20,891,921.32 to the state’s Public Housing Authority for damage to the nine buildings of the David Malo Circle housing facility. The second award will provide $14,120.421.86 in federal funding to the state’s Piilani Elderly Homes and Community Center. The Homes were comprised of three buildings.
“There are few things more important than the security that comes with stable housing, a place you can call home. This federal funding will help rebuild facilities and create homes for residents who are still displaced nearly eight months after the deadly Maui fires,” said Rep. Tokuda. “I understand the urgency and remain strongly committed to helping Maui recover and rebuild and will continue to make sure Congress and our nation does not forget the collective responsibility it has to help our Maui ohana move forward.”
